Multi-Faith Dialogue Series

Jewish, Christian and Muslim Perspectives on Mysticism

Each session will include a presentation from Jewish, Christian and Muslim perspectives, and dialogue with the presenters and other participants.
 

Part 1:  What is Mysticism and Where Did it Come From?  

We'll explore the roots and branches of mysticism in all three traditions through stories, lives, writings and experiences.  Saturday November 16, 2 to 5 pm.
 
Featuring presentations by:  
  • Mr. Bob Chodos, a long-time member and lay leader of Temple Shalom, Waterloo; 
  • The Rev'd Glenda Meakin, retreat leader, teacher of Christian meditation, and retired Anglican priest; 
  • Dr. Timothy Gianotti, Director, American Islamic College, Chicago.

Part 2: What does Mysticism Look Like Today?

What are some of the similarities and differences between traditional, non-traditional, and popular forms of mysticism?  Sunday December 8, 2 to 5 pm.
 
Featuring presentations by:  
  • Rabbi Lori Cohen, Temple Shalom, Waterloo; 
  • Dr. Douglas Bors, Professor Emeritus, Department of Psychology, University of Toronto and member of St. James' Anglican Church, Stratford;
  • Mr. Shiraz Sheikh, Adjunct Professor, Studies in Islam, Renison University College, Waterloo.
