Renison's English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher training programs are intensive courses preparing candidates to teach ESL to students in Canada and abroad. Renison is partnered with Advance Consulting for Education - Teaching English as a Second Language to Speakers of Other Languages (ACE-TESOL). We offer two ACE-TESOL courses: the ACE-TESOL Certificate and the ACE-TESOL Diploma.
Who can take ACE-TESOL?
A university degree (in any field) is required for certification but not required for enrolment. Candidates in their final year of university studies may apply; however, once they have successfully completed the ACE-TESOL program, they may only seek TESL Canada Certification upon graduation with their university degree.
Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English by providing a recent score on a standardized English proficiency test that exceeds the score required for undergraduate admission to the University of Waterloo’s Faculty of Arts (see the specific score requirements).
The completion of this program (100-hour classroom component with the 20-hour practicum option) can lead to TESL Canada Standard One Certification.
The completion of the ACE-TESOL diploma program (150-hour classroom component and 30-hour practicum) combined with the ACE-TESOL Certificate program can lead to TESL Ontario Certification. To achieve TESL Ontario Certification and TESL Canada Two (Interim) Certification, candidates must complete both programs.
TESL Ontario professional certification
Participants who complete the ACE-TESOL Diploma are eligible to apply for TESL Ontario Certification. More information on TESL Ontario Professional Certification.
