Eating Disorder Awareness Week - Kadi and CarolanneExport this event to calendar

Friday, February 6, 2015 — 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM EST

Eating Disorder Awareness Week (EDAW) is celebrated in Canada from February 1-7, 2015. Run by the National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC), the goal of this week is to provide information and resources on eating disorders and food/weight preoccupation, as well as to spread awareness to the general public.

This is the second year that Renison will be hosting guest speakers for EDAW. Please join us to hear our guest speakers (and their mothers) talk about their experiences. Everyone is welcome, but spaces are limited, so please show up a few minutes early if you'd like to attend.

Kadi
Anorexia and diabulimia survivor

Kadi and her mother Angela speak about two things that changed Kadi’s life forever - a diabetes diagnosis, and an increasing self-awareness of body image. For the next two years, it was anorexia that dominated her quest to achieve the ideal body shape, but at 14, she began to deliberately give herself less insulin than she needed in order to lose even more weight. In high school, she started to skip the needles altogether.

Carolanne
Binge eating disorder and bulimia survivor

Carolanne and her mother Susan speak about Carolanne’s decades-long battle with binge eating disorder and bulimia. After waiting eight years for a spot in a local treatment facility, she has completed the program, but still struggles with her eating disorder daily.
