Dear Renison Campus Community,
We know that 2020 has been a challenging year for many reasons. We want to acknowledge and call attention to the fact that so many of these challenges have disproportionately impacted our BIPOC community. We are reaching out today with a virtual note of care and support to our community, along with a reminder to you of resources and supports that are available.
By now, many of you will be aware of a number of ongoing disturbing situations that have been widely reported within the media. We understand the added difficulty and burden of situations of this nature touching so close to home. We wish to acknowledge the (re)traumatizing nature of the events that have transpired, and the hurt that is doubtless being felt by many of you, particularly Black and Indigenous members of the Renison and UWaterloo families.
There are many supports and services available to our campus community:
Students at Renison University College can reach out to the Wellness Centre for counselling and urgent support. Our Chaplain, Megan Collings-Moore, provides additional safe space for help and support. Also, there are supports available through main campus, including accommodations for racial trauma.
Renison faculty and staff can find a variety of support tools available through the Wellness Channel on MS Teams, including many resources from Homewood Health.
Stay well and remember to be kind to each other.
