FurScience.com was launched in April 2016 by Professor Sharon Roberts, Social Development Studies, and her international team of researchers.

Most recently Professor Roberts was invited to discuss her research on the Jenny McCarthy Show on Sirius XM Stars Channel 109. On the show, Jenny McCarthy’s topics are quite eclectic--everything from dating, parenting, sex, relationships, pop culture and current events—which Jenny presents interactively through live calls, Tweets and social media.

Originally, McCarthy had bought into the negative attention that has been placed on Furry Fandom through different pop culture references in TV shows. However in talking to Professor Roberts, McCarthy admitted to being surprised how little she and, by extension, most of the public knows.

"It was really gratifying to be able to use our research to change Jenny McCarthy's perspective on the furry fandom," said Roberts. "It seems that her son is showing interest in the furry fandom, and all Jenny knew was from CSI. Naturally, she found the situation vexing. However, by the end of our 22 minutes together, where I explained the science of the fandom, Jenny reported feeling 100% better about the whole matter. With the reach of her Sirius XM Stars show, the interview was a big win for battling stigma against the fandom."
