Renison celebrates 51 years of academic excellence

WATERLOO, ON –  Renison University College is celebrating the 51st anniversary of its founding on Saturday, January 16, 2009. For the first time, the Founders’ Day celebration will be held in the Great Hall at Renison University College.  Evensong and Convocation begins at 3:00 p.m.

During Convocation, Renison University College will bestow the title of Honorary Senior Fellow to The Rev’d Harry Janke, Honorary Associate at Holy Saviour in Waterloo, and Mr. Gerry Remers, President and Chief Operating Officer of Christie Digital Systems Inc.  Renison is also pleased to acknowledge Dr. M. Darrol Bryant, Distinguished Professor Emeritus, and Dr. Michael Smyth, Professor Emeritus, as Fellows of the College. 
 
The Keynote Address will be given by the Rt. Rev’d Ralph Spence, Chancellor of Renison University College. Founders’ Day will conclude with a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception at the College.
 
Renison University College was established as an affiliated college with the University of Waterloo on January 14, 1959. Since its founding, as a separately incorporated institution with its own publicly-accountable Board of Governors, Renison University College registers full-time and part-time students in undergraduate academic plans of the University of Waterloo Faculty of Arts, including Renison’s own Social Development Studies, which prepares students for careers in the helping professions and for public service. As well, the College offers a post-BA Honours Bachelor of Social Work program, East Asian Studies, an English Language Institute for those 
whose first language is not English, and is the home of the Confucius Institute at the University of Waterloo.
