School of Social Work spreads some holiday kindness

Monday, December 22, 2014

On Wed. Dec 10, our School of Social Work (SSW) staff and faculty took the morning to volunteer with House of Friendship, delivering Christmas Hampers as part of the “12 days for good” program. In total, about 10 volunteers delivered between 70-80 hampers.

Trish Noordstra, SSW Field Education Coordinator and one of the volunteers, says that it is such a rewarding experience.  "
We had 4 vehicles and 10 staff/faculty out delivering food hampers for the at an average of 15 to 20 hampers a vehicle. We were more prepared this year for the heavy lifting and the happiness you feel by just helping out for a morning. Although our aching bodies might disagree, this is a small part of the 4.400 that the House of Friendship needs delivered this year! Over 11,000 individuals and families will receive food this year through the hamper program. The House of Friendship is also a great supporter of the School of Social Work at Renison, last year alone they provided placements for 8 of our students!"
