A Renison student has been featured as part of #UWCommunity National Volunteer Week news series, which is profiling UWaterloo members who give their time and talent by volunteering in our community. Cristy Aponte is wrapping up her time as an SDS student, and gearing up to start the BSW program this fall. She came to Canada seven years ago from Colombia as a refugee and now uses her experiences to help mentor and support new immigrants in the Waterloo Region. In the article, Cristy says, "Seeing people in the community willing to help you, makes you feel a part of the community. As a refugee, having a social worker help us was just really meaningful to me and made me want to do that for others, which is why I volunteer." Read the full write-up on the Daily Bulletin.
