The University of Waterloo is committed to creating a unique, community-based research and technology park, whose mandate is to foster radical innovation. The high ambition of the David Johnston Research + Technology Park is supported by a comprehensive partnership among the university, the Government of Canada, Province of Ontario, the Region of Waterloo, the City of Waterloo, Communitech, and Canada’s Technology Triangle.
The David Johnston Research + Technology Park provides a powerfully supportive base for radical, high impact research. Today, greater than 70% of the world's GDP (gross domestic product) runs on software created by companies in the R + T Park. As a proud part of the Toronto-Waterloo corridor, Idea Quarter inhabits 3.2 million square feet of space, 16,500 tech workers, and 20,000 co-op students. With exciting features such as the new regional LRT and
