The University of Waterloo is committed to creating a unique, community-based research and technology park, whose mandate is to foster radical innovation. The high ambition of the David Johnston Research + Technology Park is supported by a comprehensive partnership among the university, the Government of Canada, Province of Ontario, the Region of Waterloo, the City of Waterloo, Communitech, and Canada’s Technology Triangle.
The David Johnston Research + Technology Park provides a powerfully supportive base for radical, high impact research. Today, greater than 70% of the world's GDP (gross domestic product) runs on software created by companies in the R + T Park. As a proud part of the Toronto-Waterloo corridor, Idea Quarter inhabits 3.2 million square feet of space, 16,500 tech workers, and 20,000 co-op students. With exciting features such as the new regional LRT and
world renowned universities, the area is home to 175 innovative companies. The best part is, this is only the beginning for Idea Quarter’s endless potential. The concentrated tech cluster is expanding quickly,with new buildings, businesses, and talent joining the community with every passing month.

SAP is a German software firm on the forefront of innovation and digital technologies and back in 2004, SAP became the first tenant of the R+T Park. Now SAP is further investing in their partnership with the University of Waterloo, beginning with a multi-million dollar renovation to modernize their space and expand their workforce.

Last Friday was our first beer garden of the season...and it was awesome!
Over 300 community members were able to come out, share a drink and enjoy the warm day.
