Minister Brad Duguid congratulates Cisco Canada and the University of Waterloo on the new Incubation Centre and Research Chair in Smart Grid Technologies

On behalf of the Government of Ontario, I want to congratulate Cisco Systems Canada and the University of Waterloo on the opening of the Cisco lncubation Centre at the university's David Johnston Research and Technology Park, and for establishing a Research Chair in Smart Grid technologies.

Accelerator Centre helps high-tech firms soar higher, sooner

The mission at Waterloo’s Accelerator Centre is really quite simple: take in high-tech companies with the potential to become world class, nurture and mentor them, then watch them fly away.

“The businesses we accept into the Accelerator Program are already off the ground. What we do here is get them up to full throttle so they can soar into the clouds,” says Tim Ellis, the Accelerator Centre’s CEO.

Maclean's 2013 rankings confirm University of Waterloo's reputation as Canada's most innovative university for 21 consecutive years

Maclean’s magazine has once again recognized the University of Waterloo as the most innovative university in Canada.

Waterloo is consistently one of the top universities in the Reputation Survey of the Maclean’s annual rankings of Canadian universities. Waterloo is among the top three in Canada in the categories of Best Overall, Highest Quality and Leaders of Tomorrow. This is the 21st consecutive time that Waterloo has been ranked Canada’s top university for innovation.

Cisco Incubation Centre taps into video

Srinivasan Keshav remembers with a shudder the early days of video-conferencing.

In the late 1980s, videos were grainy, the lighting terrible and cameras bulky and conspicuous. The whole experience was more of a hassle than a help, he says.
