Twitter co-founder visits Waterloo, plans to bring new company to town

Square, the new company run by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, will open an office in Waterloo, Dorsey announced Thursday while in the city.

Dorsey made the announcement as part of a speech delivered at the University of Waterloo, saying it was a “very easy choice” to establish a presence in this area, with its abundant tech sector.

“We’ve seen this in a lot of other college towns … but this one is quite special,” he told reporters.

Square has developed a way to use smartphones to make credit card transactions.

The Accelerator Centre announces latest graduates from the award-winning Accelerator Program: I Think Security Ltd. and Monstercat Inc.

World renowned for its cultivation of technology entrepreneurship, Waterloo’s Accelerator Centre announced today that I Think Security Ltd. and Monstercat Inc. are the latest companies to graduate from its award-winning Accelerator Program. The Accelerator Program has graduated 33 companies into the marketplace since its inception in 2005, generating 1000 jobs, and contributing more than $90 million in revenue to the Waterloo Region economy.
