Raising the standard

It’s ambitious, but the principals behind it are determined to develop the area’s first net-positive building at the David Johnston Research and Technology park by 2018.

The building would go far beyond current green building standards and LEED principles to contribute to the electrical grid, while recycling water and waste and actually going beyond zero emissions.

“There is a buzz about our city and we all feel it,” said Mayor Jaworsky during this year’s state of the city address. “Whether we are long-time residents, established community leaders, young students…or youth about to embark on their post-secondary journey, we all know that Waterloo is the place to be.”

Communitech to launch Open Data Exchange in Waterloo

"We do a lot of work with predictive analytics," says Jeremy Auger, chief strategy officer at Desire2Learn. "Using data from classrooms, we can predict whether a student will drop out or fail, and that allows the schools to do intervention or address the risk factors early on."
