Waterloo is hosting "Rooted in History: A Celebration of Black History as Canadian History." The event will include a performance, a keynote address and a panel of some of our most formidable thinkers in celebration of Black History in Canada and those trailblazers making history right here at Waterloo.

Our speakers will include: 

  • Feridun Hamdullahpur, President and Vice-Chancellor, University of Waterloo
  • Laura Mae Lindo, Member of Provincial Parliament, Kitchener-Centre
  • Charmaine Dean, Vice-president, Research, University of Waterloo
  • Kathy Hogarth, Associate Professor, School of Social Work
  • Aaron Francis, Equity Advisor, Graduate Student Association
  • Christopher Taylor, Black Equity Strategist, Anti-Racism Advisor, and Lecturer
  • Vershawn Young, Professor, Cross Appointed; English Language and Literature, and Communication Arts
  • Naila Keleta-Mae, Associate Professor, Department of Communication Arts
  • Rufus John, Kitchener-Waterloo Canadian-Caribbean Vocalist
