Eye exams linked to kids’ reading levels

Elementary school children who read below grade level may have challenges with their eyesight even if standard tests show they see 20/20, according to a new study from the University of Waterloo.

The study showed that children with reading challenges may have lower than expected binocular vision test results, something a standard eye exam may overlook.

Ontario pharmacy research collaborative wins major funding from Ministry of Health and Long Term Care

The Ontario Pharmacy Evidence Network (OPEN) awarded 2 million in funding to advance work in medication management.

Medications can improve health and save lives, but they are not without risk. With prescription medication in Ontario costing $10.6 billion per year, new strategies to help patients and healthcare providers choose, use, and remove medications are critical to providing better care and ensuring financial sustainability of the public system.

Optometry & Vision Science graduate student's research showcased across Canada

If you are travelling by plane in Canada, or through the train and bus terminals of Ottawa, you may spot the University of Waterloo logo and recognize one of the School of Optometry & Vision Science’s graduate student celebrities, Emmanual Alabi, on billboards and posters created by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI). Alabi was chosen as one of eight researchers from across Canada who exemplify a curious, ambitious, innovative and collaborative approach to their work.
