In significant study, researchers find that multinationals comply with employment law when unionized

Unless unions are involved, foreign multinational corporations (MNCs) operating in Canada are less likely than their domestic counterparts to comply with employment law.

In the most significant study of its kind, researchers from the University of Waterloo found that MNCs from nearly every country complied better with Canadian labour laws if their operations in Canada were unionized.

New sensor could help doctors monitor patient progress from a distance

A self-powered sensor developed at the University of Waterloo could allow doctors to remotely monitor the recovery of surgical patients.

The small, tube-like device is designed to be fitted to braces after joint surgery to wirelessly send information to computers, smartphones or smartwatches to track range of motion and other indicators of improvement.

Waterloo's self-driving vehicle passes 100km milestone on public streets

Researchers at the University of Waterloo have reached an important milestone by logging their 100thkilometre on public roads in a self-driving car deemed the "autonomoose."

Achieved last week in an industrial area of Waterloo, it is the culmination of almost two years of work since the research team won approval from the Ontario government to do on-road testing in an autonomous vehicle pilot program.

Researchers on road to creating a rechargeable lithium-oxygen battery

Researchers from the University of Waterloo have successfully resolved two of the most challenging issues surrounding lithium-oxygen batteries, and in the process created a working battery with near 100 per cent coulombic efficiency.

Provide feedback on new Tri-Agency research fund by August 27

Researchers interested in providing feedback on the proposed funding design for a new Tri-Agency Fund are invited to take part in the Canada Research Coordinating Committee (CRCC) Consultation online questionnaire by August 27.

The CRCC will be designing the new fund to foster multidisciplinary collaborations, and support international, fast-breaking, and high-risk research to ensure that Canada excels in the research enterprise of the future.
