Two retired University of Waterloo faculty members who made significant contributions to the Faculty of Engineering passed away in June.
Distinguished professor, Ralph Haas, a retired faculty member from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, passed away on June 19 at the age of 87.
Known in the engineering world as “the father of pavement asset management,” Ralph was also a longstanding member of the Waterloo Awards Committee. Read the tribute to Ralph Haas from Charmaine Dean, Vice-President, Research and International.
Thomas Brzustowski is remembered by the Institute for Quantum Computing for his service to the Advisory Board. Tom joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1962 and in his first decade at Waterloo served as Department Chair and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies. He was appointed the University’s Vice-President, Academic in 1975 and later named the University’s first provost. He passed away on June 19.
