The University of Waterloo has opened its first technology transfer centre in China.

The Waterloo Technology Centre, which will be located in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, has been made possible with an investment from Xuzhou Hi-Tech Park. An opening ceremony on Feb. 22 in Xuzhou was attended by Bruce Muirhead, AVP of External Research, Ling Loerchner, the Lead of Greater China Region and transfer technology manager, WatCo, as well as Canadian trade commissioners from the Shanghai Consulate Office and Chinese government officials.

“The new centre is a huge milestone for Waterloo,” says Ling Loerchner, transfer technology manager, with the Waterloo Commercialization Office (WatCo). “We look forward to working more closely with businesses and investment entities in China and advancing commercialization on a global scale.”

The new technology transfer centre in Xuzhou is latest of several formal partnerships with distinguished businesses and academic institutions in Asia and emphasizes Waterloo’s commitment to further strengthening its relationship with China.
