Automated External Defibrillators (AED)

Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are portable devices that shock a heart out of a potentially fatal rhythm thereby allowing electrical activity in the heart to return to a more normal pattern.

It is a departmental decision whether to purchase an AED. The department is solely responsible for the cost of the AED, the training of staff, and the maintenance of the equipment.

See the University's AED Procedures and Guidelines for more information.

Contact Karen Parkinson for information on an AED location approval, the AED Advisory Committee, and AED training.
