This article outlines the stages of development of a systematic search methodology for a scoping review within the library and information science (LIS) literature. The effectiveness of the database search strategies (LISTA, LISA, ERIC, Scopus, Web of Science) and supplemental search techniques are measured through a retrospective analysis of performance metrics. Findings show that for research topics limited to the library setting, it may be more effective to search fewer databases (LISTA and Scopus only) for peer reviewed journal articles and allot more time to alternate search techniques such as web searching to identify non-journal literature. The article provides an evidence-based, methodological approach to developing a systematic search plan, unique to LIS researchers, that accounts for time and resource needs. © 2020</style>
<notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">cited By 0</style></notes></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Stapleton, J.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Carter, C.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Bredahl, L.</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Research consultations in the academic library: A scoping review on current themes in instruction, assessment and technology</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Journal of Academic Librarianship</style></secondary-title></titles><dates><year><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">2020</style></year></dates><urls><web-urls><url><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-85085200739&amp;doi=10.1016%2fj.acalib.2020.102156&amp;partnerID=40&amp;md5=6a8438c3df45c68542b6328239e337f6</style></url></web-urls></urls><number><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">4</style></number><publisher><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Elsevier Ltd</style></publisher><volume><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">46</style></volume><language><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">eng</style></language>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">This scoping review highlights the characteristics, assessments and technologies used to describe, improve and promote one-to-one research consultations as a mode of research support and instruction in academic libraries. A search for relevant studies was conducted using LISTA, LISA, ERIC, Scopus and Web of Science, limiting to empirical evidence or studies outlining the use of technology within library practice, published from 2013 to current, in the English language. Supplemental search methods included a grey literature search, handsearching, and cited reference searching. From 2268 records, 43 studies were identified for inclusion. Of these, 17 studies described using consultations in the delivery of information literacy instruction, 33 evaluation studies reported on student, faculty, and librarian outcomes, and 15 articles discussed the use of technology. Users reported an overwhelming positive experience while mixed learning outcomes were seen in performance assessment studies. The assessment methods and uses of technology outlined in this review can be used by librarians to inform service delivery and provide evidence of the value and impact of research consultations on the academic mission of the library and its institution. © 2020</style>
<notes><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">cited By 0</style></notes></record><record><source-app name="Biblio" version="7.x">Drupal-Biblio</source-app><ref-type>17</ref-type><contributors><authors><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Browne, D.T.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">May, S.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Hurst-Della Pietra, P.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Christakis, D.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Asamoah, T.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Hale, L.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Delrahim-Howlett, K.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Emond, J.A.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Fiks, A.G.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Madigan, S.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Prime, H.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Perlman, G.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Rumpf, H.-J.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Thompson, D.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Uzzo, S.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Stapleton, J.</style></author><author><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">Neville, R.</style></author></authors></contributors><titles><title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">From 'screen time' to the digital level of analysis: Protocol for a scoping review of digital media use in children and adolescents</style></title><secondary-title><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">BMJ Open</style></secondary-title></titles><keywords><keyword><style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">a stakeholder meeting of the Media Impact Screening Toolkit workgroup will be held to discuss the implications of our findings and to finalise our dissemination strategy. A highlighted area of inadequacy surrounds the methodological limitations of measuring digital media use for both researchers and clinicians, alike. This protocol aims to (1) identify core concepts in the area of screen time and digital media use in children and adolescents (2) map existing research paradigms and screening/measurement tools that serve to underpin and operationalise core concepts and (3) provide an initial step in integrating these findings into a consolidated screening toolkit. It is expected this enterprise will help advance research and clinical evaluation in fields concerned with digital media use, namely medicine, child development and the social sciences. Methods and analysis The planned scoping review will search relevant electronic databases, including Ovid MEDLINE, PsycINFO and Scopus, in addition to grey literature. All empirical investigations and presentation of original research will be considered, and measurement/screening tools for digital media usage in children and adolescents will be identified and reported on. Two reviewers will pilot test the screening criteria, and data extraction forms prior to independently screening all relevant literature and extracting the data. A three-stage synthesis process will be used to map the existent measurement and screening tools for digital media usage in children and adolescents. Ethics and dissemination There are no ethical considerations for this scoping review. Plans for dissemination include publication in a top-tier, open-access journal, public presentations and conference proceedings. Presentation of the full scoping review has been accepted to the American Academy of Child &amp; Adolescent Psychiatry 66th Annual Meeting. © Author(s) (or their employer(s)) 2019.
