SERVICE

WCYDTruzaar leads the charge on several community initiatives. He co-founded the regional chapter of Sustainable Youth Canada, to educate and mobilize youth about environmental concerns and their impact on the region of Waterloo. During this time, he led a team of seven executive members who together host two free ‘What Can YOUth Do’ sustainability conferences, connecting over 300 community members and 30 local organizations who share a common passion for environmental sustainability. He also co-organized the 12th national conference on ‘Economies of Change’ with the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics, where he was responsible for fostering external partnerships with local organizations. Truzaar now serves as the Vice President of Communications with the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics.

As a fellow with the Waterloo Institute for Sustainable Energy, his research examines pathways for a just low-carbon transition through social and financial movements, like fossil fuel divestment. Bridging research and practice, Truzaar now advocates for divestment with Fossil Free UW. In speaking with members of the board of directors and pensions committee about the financial case for divestment, Truzaar promoted collaborative and mutually beneficial solutions, which directly contributed to the University’s decision to incorporate responsible investing into their endowment. He continues to advocate for full carbon-neutrality in the University’s operations and investments, to lessen their contribution to the climate crisis.
