SAF Professor Named Outstanding Educator

This summer, long-time SAF professor Efrim Boritz had an unexpected but pleasant surprise in Chicago. He had arrived a few minutes late for a session of the American Accounting Association’s annual meeting—and suddenly found himself on the program. He was about to be honoured as the 2015 Outstanding Educator by the AAA’s Strategic and Emerging Technologies (SET) Section.

SAF Team Wins 2015 Goodman BUAC Competition

A group of students from the School of Accounting and Finance were looking for a “Greener Bottom Line” during the 2015 Goodman Brock University Accounting Conference (Goodman BUAC).

With businesses becoming more environmentally aware and a general increase in concern for the ecosystem, it’s not surprising that Goodman BUAC took a closer look at Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) and how it affects the accounting and business world as a whole.

Ethics in Action

4 upper year Accounting and Financial Management students

A group of upper-year Accounting and Financial Management students (AFM) were challenged to put ethics before the bottom line during a trip to the east coast.

Dean Ah Sen, Blythe Chik, Helen Hu, and Ambrose Liu traveled to Halifax for the Dalhousie Ethics in Action Case Competition in early November. The competition required groups to prepare two case studies. The first dealt with a healthcare product manufacturing company that may have accidentally shipped contaminated products to its wholesaler. The second case looked at bribery issues surrounding SNC Lavalin.

CPA-SAF Centre for Capital Markets Education Contributes to SAF Success

Established in 2012 with funding from the Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario, the CPA-SAF Centre for Capital Markets Education gives undergrads extra-curricular opportunities to acquire hands-on training in equity valuation and portfolio management, and to develop their technical and professional skills.

“Our most significant expenditures are in financing databases, Capital IQ and Bloomberg terminals,” reports Centre director Neil Brisley, a finance professor.
