Dr. Jeong-Bon Kim Announcement

The School of Accounting and Finance is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jeong-Bon Kim as the incoming J. Page R. Wadsworth Chair in Accounting and Finance effective July 1, 2015. A noted researcher, Dr. Kim comes to the University of Waterloo from the City University of Hong Kong, where he held concurrent positions of Chair Professor of Accountancy and Head of the Department of Accountancy. He is currently serving as Vice President-at-large of the International Association of Accounting Education and Research.

Dr. Kim obtained his BBA and MSc degrees from the Seoul National University and received his PhD with a major in Accounting from Temple University. Dr. Kim has been an Honoured Professor at the School of Management, Fudan University, Shanghai for several years as well as the Canada Research Chair in Corporate Governance and Financial Reporting at John Molson School of Business (JMSB), Concordia University. Dr. Kim also worked for many years at the School of Accounting and Finance and the Faculty of Business at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, where he was Head of the Department of Accountancy, Associate Dean (Postgraduate Programs and Research) for the Faculty of Business, with a concurrent appointment as Acting Head for the School of Accounting and Finance.

Dr. Kim’s research leadership and record of exemplary work with doctoral students, young faculty, and researchers aligns well with the mandate of the J. Page R. Wadsworth Chair. Dr. Kim through his research and mentorship will enhance the School of Accounting and Finance’s strong research reputation.

Established in 1983, the J. Page R. Wadsworth Chair honours Mr. Wadsworth who was a prominent Canadian banker and served on the University of Waterloo board of governors for 23 years. Mr. Wadsworth’s term included chairing the board of governors from 1977 to 1983. He served as Waterloo’s Chancellor from 1985 to 1991 and since has held the title of Chancellor Emeritus.
