A recent graduate from the School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) wins national gold medal for the Chartered Accountancy Uniform Final Examination (UFE).

Described as one of the most challenging professional examinations in the world, Vicky Au (Master of Accounting (MAcc) ’10), won the prestigious Governor General’s Gold Medal and the Chartered Accountants of Canada’s cash prize of $5,000.00 for having the highest standing in Canada on the UFE.

The three-day examination is a critical component of the CAs qualification program. It assesses a person’s knowledge, ability to think analytically, and gauges their professional judgment and ethics.

“I’m extremely happy with Waterloo’s UFE results this year.  I think it’s a reflection of the positive program and student government changes that are taking place and I hope our success this year inspires students to continue to aim for the top,” explains Au, who also won the 2010 uWaterloo Faculty of Arts Alumni Gold Medal.

Over three-thousand graduates from across the country successfully completed the UFE this year, including 151 Masters in Accounting (MAcc) and 14 Diploma in Accounting alumni from SAF. Of the 3,046 candidates, 50 were named on the national honour roll; 18 are from Ontario, five (including the National Gold Medallist), are 2010 MAcc graduates.

In addition to the UFE, the CA qualification program requires a person to successfully complete prescribed practical work experience, before they are entitled to use the internationally-recognized CA designation.
