SAF CPA students once again proves that Waterloo dominates in the area of accounting education. The 2018 CPA Common Final Exam (CFE) results showcases one of our own, Lawrence Qianyu Zhang (BAFM '18, MAcc '18), in capturing the coveted National Gold Medal, along with 15 other SAF graduates who were named to the National Honour Roll. Congratulations to all our SAF graduates to which we will be celebrating their successes at the SAF Annual Honour Roll Celebration event in late January.

This year's National and Ontario Gold Medal winner marks the fifth medal to which SAF graduates have captured in the last 8 years. Ontario CPA students performed well overall in this year's CFE. With only 1% of all student who wrote the CFE placing on the Honour Roll, 51% (35) of the 68 students were from Ontario and of the 35 Ontario students, 16 (46%) were from Waterloo's SAF programs. The National Honour Roll of the Common Final Exam recognizes the academic excellence and exceptional abilities and performance of the CPA candidates.

The CFE is the culmination of CPA's rigorous accreditation process that includes important accounting disciplines such as finance, governance, strategy, and assurance. Additionally, the CFE evaluates professional skills that are in demand within the field such as critical thinking, professional judgement, decision making. In 2018, 2,692 Ontario CPA candidates successfully complete the CFE.
