First place team, L-R:  Patrick Yu, Julee Huang, Hillary Fung, Jason Li

Two teams from the School of Accounting and Finance participated in the 2016 Brock University Accounting Conference (BUAC), and proudly claimed both the first and second place prizes.

The wins were especially momentous as this was the first university-level case competition for many of the students.

While being a first year team was slightly intimidating, we also came to realise that SAF prepares us really well for these types of competitions, and from our experience we'd highly recommend all first years to compete as well.

Second place team: Daniyal Ahmed, Harshleen Sidhu, Alisa Wu and Nathan D'Souza
The challenging case competition focused on the impact that IT risks can have on accounting processes that take place online. Through collaboration with industry professionals and keynote speakers, the students were able to develop an understanding of the rapidly changing business dynamic of cyber security.

It was a great experience as our first case competition in university. The case was really challenging, but we applied our knowledge as best as we could. We were happily surprised when we found out we qualified as finalists. Winning felt amazing but the opportunity to also bond with the other competitors and network with industry professionals was exceedingly valuable.

Congratulations to both teams for such a proud accomplishment, and for the strong start into first year!
