Waterloo SAF students are already making their mark in the investment management profession. The University of Waterloo School of Accounting and Finance (SAF) team won the local final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge, an annual global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Marking the 4th consecutive year, the Waterloo SAF team will advance to the Americas Regional Challenge on 19-20 March in Boston. Students from 427 universities in the Americas Region participated in local competitions, and the Waterloo SAF team is among 54 local winners advancing to the regional challenge.
Katherine Chan (Captain), Kevin Li, Uday Sandhu, Justin Lee, and Hammad Shams comprise the Waterloo SAF team headed to Boston, along with Faculty Adviser, Steve Balaban.
The SAF is extremely proud of Katherine, Hammad, Uday, Justin and Kevin for winning the Local level competition of the CFA Institute Research Challenge. The students’ commitment to extensive preparation was evident, not only in their flawless presentation, but also during the intense question and answer period where they answered each question competently, displaying a high level of mastery. We would like to thank our CFA Institute Research Challenge mentor, Jeannine Li Chong, whose guidance and support was instrumental to the team’s success.
Winners of the Americas Regional Challenge will advance to the Global Final on 27 April in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, where they will compete against the winners of the EMEA and APAC regional competitions. CFA Institute will livestream the Americas Regional and Global Finals so UNIVERSITY fans can watch live and cheer on the team.
