Dear new Science 2+2 students,
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are a lot of uncertainties and it makes it difficult for you to make a plan to come to Canada.
Most fall term (September to December, 2020) UW courses will be online (https://uwaterloo.ca/coronavirus/undergraduate-student-information#fall-term). We still do not know whether or not the winter term (January to April, 2021) UW courses will be taught in person on campus, and we also don’t know when this decision will be made. We do not know when you will get your study permit. We do not know when the Canada border will open to new international students. Based on current Government of Canada policies, travelers should be well prepared to provide a detailed isolation plan to border officials upon entry to Canada. The government has provided details on how to quarantine (self-isolate). The 14-day quarantine is mandatory.
If you plan to travel to Waterloo in August (if the Canadian border opens), in order for us to facilitate planning for an August arrival, we must know how many students to expect by the end of this month (June 29) at the very latest, because it will take us time to try to do residence planning, plan for a possible two-week isolation period and resolve other issues.
