Over Dr. Richardson's career her research interests have spanned the following areas:

• Genesis of ore deposits and related fluids, particularly those associated with igneous rocks, using isotopic tracers (Re-Os, Sm-Nd, Pb) or mineral chemistry, direct dating of ore deposits using metallic, accessory and alteration minerals. Paragenesis of ore deposits.
• Geoanalysis and method development (e.g., QEMSCAN, laser-ablation ICP-MS).
• Geometallurgy and the use of mineralogical and other down-hole parameters to document and assess process mineralogy and comminution parameters; assessment of mineralogy, dissolution and diagenesis using instrumental techniques (humidity cells, QEMSCAN) to monitor and model the disposition and safety of CO₂ and SO₂ in acid rock drainage and carbon capture and sequestration in storage reservoirs over time (elapsed in centuries).                         
• Use of deep-penetrating geochemical methods such as MMI to target ore deposits 500 m below surface; pairing of deep-penetrating geochemistry and geophysics for exploration, using down-hole monitoring devices to vector to ore deposits.

• Scientific courses in economic geology; mineralogy; mineral chemistry; geochemistry; exploration methods; igneous petrology; isotope geochemistry; introductory geology and biology and sedimentology.
• Technical professional development courses for both the international exploration community and high school students.
