New guest Wi-Fi service on campus (from Daily Bulletin, May 15, 2019) - Net-ID replacement

The Net-ID service used for guest Wi-Fi access is being shut down, according to an announcement from Information Systems and Technology (IST).

Net-ID will no longer be available beginning Saturday, June 1. After June 1, users connected to Eduroam using Net-ID (userid@netid.uwaterloo.ca) will be disconnected.

IST reports that users can establish an alternate wireless connection using the steps outlined below:

  1. Click and connect to 'uw-wifi-setup-no-encryption' found under your computer's list of available Wi-Fi networks.
  2. In the Join 'uw-wifi-setup-no-encryption' pop-up window, scroll down and select the 'Click here if you are a guest user' option.
  3. Enter your first name, last name, and email address into each respective field. Click 'I Agree' to continue.
  4. A confirmation code will be sent via email. Enter the code into the pop-up window to connect to the Wi-Fi. There will be a 10-minute window for you to enter the code before the process times out and needs to be restarted.

Wi-Fi access will timeout after 24 hours.
