AutoCAD

The University of Waterloo has a research license with Autodesk that includes the following packages:

  • AutoCAD
  • Fusion 360
  • Inventor
  • Revit
  • 3DS MAX
  • TinkerCAD
  • Maya

This license is for research and research support purposes only. 

To access the license:

  • Go to Autodesk.com. In the top, left corner click "Sign in."
  • Below the Email field click "CREATE ACCOUNT."
  • Create an account by entering your first name, last name, UWaterloo email address (yourWatIAMuserid@uwaterloo.ca), and a password.
  • Check the box agreeing to the Autodesk Privacy Statement and Terms of Use then click "Create Account."
  • Verify your email address by opening the email that Autodesk sends you and clicking on the verification link.
  • Provide documentation of your status on campus.
  • Once your status (documentation) has been verified, you will be able to download and install the desired software.

To access a free educational license:

  • Go to Autodesk.com.
  • Click "Get Started."
  • Select the country of your educational institution, your educational role, and the institution type then click "Next."
    • If you select Student you must enter your date of birth.
  • Enter your first name, last name, UWaterloo email address (yourWatIAMuserid@uwaterloo.ca) and, a password.
  • Check the box agreeing to the Autodesk Privacy Statement and Terms of Use then click "Create Account."
  • Verify your email address by opening the email that Autodesk sends you and clicking on the verification link.
  • Click "Done" on the "Account verified" window.
  • Enter the name of your educational instituition and any other fields then click "Next."
  • Click "Continue" on the "Account set" window.
  • In the top left corner click "Products" then on the right side of the dropdown menu under "Discover" click "Educational Access."
  • Scroll down to beside "Watch Video (1:05 min.)" and click "Get products."
  • Click "Get Started." Then click "Confirm" after verifying that the information is correct.
  • Click "Confirm Eligibility With Your Educational Institution Single Sign-on." 
    • Complete the 2FA prompt, then click "Accept" on the "permissions requested" window.
    • Alternatively, you can also upload documentation of your status on campus manually.
  • After your account has been verified, on the Autodesk window click "Get Autodesk Software" on the popup to begin installing your desired software. 

Installing the desired software:

  • On Autodesk.com under the "Get products" tab select the desired software from the list by clicking "Get product."
  • Select the correct options for your product (operating system, year, language, etc.) then click "Install" and "Accept" the terms to begin the download.
  • Open the .exe file that is downloaded to your computer to begin the installation process. 
  • Choose where to install the product then click "Next."
  • Optionally select the "AutoCAD performance reporting tool" and then finally click "Install" to begin the installation.
