Kelly is a self described "believer and dreamer" who brought her boundless energy to task to her local community. In the summer of 2010, Kelly's young daughter was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome which subsequently led Kelly to found a charitable organization in her daughter's name- Kate's Kause. As an advocate for inclusion, she spear-headed the fundraising campaign of the organization to create and build an inclusive playground in Elmira, Ontario, which would encourage children of all abilities to socialize and explore their environment together by the spring of 2012.

Kelly graduated with a B.Sc. from the University of Waterloo, obtained her M.Sc. from McMaster, and her B.Ed. from the University of Western Ontario. Currently she teaches science and does her part to promote women in science.
