The University of Waterloo will host a public lecture to examine the geoscience behind the recent Haiti disaster.

Steve Evans, professor of earth and environmental sciences, will explore why the earthquake in Haiti happened. He will be focus on the tectonic zone known for major earthquake events in the region since the mid-1500s and also look at previous earthquakes that occurred before this current disaster.

Keith Delaney, a PhD student in earth and environmental sciences, will also present before and after satellite images of the region.
