On Tuesday, March 23rd at 5:25 pm, the Faculty of Science will host its first Speed Networking event. Undergraduate and graduate students will meet 27 Waterloo Science alumni during a fast-paced, career-focused, interactive hour.

These alumni, representing traditional and non-traditional science careers, will share their personal work-related experiences, such as how career decision-making, networking, and even serendipity led them to do what they are doing now.

Saturday, March 13, 2010 — 11:30 AM to 5:30 PM EST

The University of Waterloo Management Consulting Club is holding a Management Consulting Case Competition.

The event includes a Case Preparation Session, provided by Deloitte Consulting, earlier in the week, in which students will be taught how to approach and present a business case. On the day of the main event, participants will be presenting to judges from top consulting firms Deloitte, McKinsey and BCG.

Effective science communication should include the full spectrum of approaches from broadcast through iterative dialogue. The presentation provides a serious yet entertaining overview of how and why a salmon biologist became a knowledge translation and brokering expert working at the science-policy interface, helping ensure that targeted users are aware of and use federal science and technology.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010 — 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM EST

You're invited to an evening of star gazing at the Gustav Bakos Observatory.

The Observatory is open for public tours on the first Wednesday of each month, offering a chance to look through the university's telescope. This will be preceded by a short talk on astronomy (around 30 minutes) plus an opportunity to ask questions, followed by a tour of the dome.
