We've partnered with Women in Engineering to get University of Waterloo community members access to a free screening of Picture A Scientist - a documentary raising visibility around gender bias and racism in science.
Following the film screening period, the Undergraduate Science Society will be hosting a discussion open to all students, faculty, and staff members who would like to share their thoughts.
Synopsis: PICTURE A SCIENTIST chronicles the groundswell of researchers who are writing a new chapter for women scientists. Biologist Nancy Hopkins, chemist Raychelle Burks, and geologist Jane Willenbring lead viewers on a journey deep into their own experiences in the sciences, ranging from brutal harassment to years of subtle slights. Along the way, from cramped laboratories to spectacular field stations, we encounter scientific luminaries - including social scientists, neuroscientists, and psychologists - who provide new perspectives on how to make science itself more diverse, equitable, and open to all.

Please complete the second registration form specific for the Science discussion. This event is hosted by SciSoc, but is open to any undergraduate student, graduate student, faculty, or staff member within the Faculty of Science who have viewed the film.
Once you are registered, an email link will be shared with you for the post event discussion platform.
When: The post-event discussion will take place online Monday May 31, from 7pm to 8:30pm.
