Brian Dixon, Professor of Biology and member of the Waterloo Water Institute, has been awarded a Partners In Research National Award for his contributions to the Virtual Researcher on Call (VROC) program.
The VROC program allows elementary and secondary students to contact a researcher directly via video conferencing when they have questions on a relevant science topic. Classrooms can pre-schedule time with researchers or call on the spur of the moment.
Dixon and co-recipient Dr. Craig Merrett of Carlton University are being recognized for contributing the highest number of expert hours to the VROC program and for their impact on students’ learning experience.
Not only does Dixon regularly connect with classrooms across Canada, he has also made a video for the VROC Science Scoop series entitled, “For the Love of Fish”. Dixon currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Fish and Environmental Immunology.
The award will be presented at the 2nd Annual Partners In Research (PIR) National Awards event on May 23, 2014 at the Ottawa Conference and Event Centre.
Congratulations, Professor Dixon, for winning this prestigious award!
