Stream of study: Co-op
Career goal: I hope to pursue a career in a pharmaceutical or cosmetic lab conducting research into discovering new compounds.
Favourite food: Sushi
How I get involved: I am the Vice President of Sponsorship for WarmWorkers Waterloo, a charitable organization on campus that strives to transition the homeless in Waterloo from dependency to self-sufficiency. I volunteer with the Federation of Students for organizations such as the Sustainable Campus Initiative to raise awareness of environmentally-friendly projects and for events such as Welcome Week to celebrate the start of each term.
Why I love my program
I love my program because I’m able to learn about both disciplines to an advanced level through the set structure of courses. Plus, there is room to delve into other subject areas if I wanted to. With the time spent in labs that each cover a different concentration in biology and chemistry (e.g., microbes in food, analytical chemistry, etc.), my experience is broadened and it has helped me discover what I want to concentrate my work on in the future.
Why University of Waterloo?
Upon visiting the campus during a school trip, the environment immediately felt comfortable and welcoming. I gained a sense of passion and reassurance from hearing the talks given by professors and lab instructors. After experimenting in the lab and receiving guidance and feedback from the current students there at the time, it was clear that the people and the facilities were a right fit for me.
