Science Ambassador

Year: 4

Stream of study: Co-op

Career goal: I don't know yet.

Favourite food: Carbs

Fun Fact: This is Hannibal! I got him and another plant as a gift last year, both in the same pot. But he grew a lot faster and the other plant died after a few months. I never removed the other plant’s stem and root system, so technically Hannibal is still feeding off his partner.

How I get involved: I've volunteered for individual events like the Applied Health Sciences Fun Run, but being a Science Ambassador this year is my first time being part of a student team and getting involved on campus. It's never too late to start!

Why I love my program

My favourite part about being in Biology is the flexibility of the program, which is really important to me now that I'm in my 3rd year. The mandatory biology courses in the first year or two of the program gave me a chance to explore aspects of biology that I hadn't previously considered, and the prerequisites to take almost any upper year biology course I wanted. Past my second year, I had the electives to continue in my field of interest and take courses out of interest (both within the Faculty of Science and with other faculties around University of Waterloo).

Why University of Waterloo?

Co-op was one of the main reasons I chose UWaterloo, particularly because I was extremely indecisive coming out of high school. The opportunity to explore different careers and work environments is invaluable, and even though I'm still not sure what I want to do, I definitely have a much better idea of what I enjoy doing and what I don't.
