Khurshid - Mathematical Physics

Science Ambassador
Khurshid fun

Program: Honours Mathematical Physics, Pure Mathematics Minor and Astrophysics Minor

Year: 4

Stream of study: Co-op

Pronouns: He/Him

Career goal: Theoretical/Experimental Physicist

How I get involved: I am involved as a Science Ambassador and Undergraduate Student Representative at the Department of Physics and Astronomy as well as an External Affairs Executive at the Canadian Undergraduate Physics Conference (CUPC) organizing team this year.

Why I love my program

Math and physics have always been the most exciting subjects for me. Yet, I often experienced uncertainty about which path to choose: whether to specialize solely in one or another. My program allows me to combine both interests and reach a balance between delving into abstract mathematical foundations and their application to describe the physical phenomena we are interested in.

Why University of Waterloo?

One of the main reasons I was excited to become a part of the UW is the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) and the possibilities they create to make research more accessible for students. This has encouraged me to apply for a co-op program to get involved in the work at the institutes. Yet, being an international student from Uzbekistan, I was excited to come to Canada to explore the True North and the vast wilderness this has to offer.
