Khurshid - Mathematical Physics

Science Ambassador

Khurshid goofy

Year: 2

Stream of study: Co-op

Minors: Pure Mathematics, Astrophysics

Career goal: I would love to become a Professor! My dream is to contribute to the ongoing research in cosmology where humans are slowly but steadily unraveling the mysteries of the universe and also to share my knowledge and passion for physics with other people. I also like to think that by becoming an academician I will continue my family tradition of educating and sparking interest in science in future youth.

Favourite food: Ben and Jerry's ice cream (any flavour) that cools my brain off after a hard-working day

How I get involved: Science Ambassadors, Physics Club

Why I love my program

Math and physics have always been the most exciting subjects for me. Yet, I often experienced uncertainty about which path to choose: whether specialize solely in one or another. My program allows me to combine both interests and reach a balance between delving into abstract mathematical foundations and their application to describe physical phenomena we are interested in.

Why University of Waterloo?

One of the main reasons I was excited to become a part of the UW is the Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC) and Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics (PI) and the possibilities they create to make research more accessible for students. This has encouraged me to apply for a co-op program to potentially get involved in the work of the institutes. Yet, being an international student from Uzbekistan, I was excited to come to Canada to explore the True North as it's described in my favorite novels by Jack London.
