Melissa - Biochemistry

Science Ambassador

Melissa

Year: 4

Stream of study: Regular

Career goal: I'm not sure exactly yet but something in the pharmaceutical industry. I really enjoy learning about the mechanisms of drug delivery and their interaction in the body.

Favourite food: Currently pineapple or mango

How I get involved: During my first year, I was a member of Residence Council as well as residence tour guide. Since then, I have been a part of orientation week, a Let's Talk Science Volunteer and a Science Ambassador. I also work for the Student Success Office as well as a local pharmacy.

Why I love my program

I love my program because it is something I can see everywhere in my life. From what I eat to genetics and everything else in the cell, I love learning about all the cellular processes that keep us functioning. As an upper year student, my favourite moments in class or in a lab are when I can see all the information I've learnt in previous courses come together like one giant puzzle.

Why University of Waterloo?

Waterloo always seemed like the best choice for me. I knew I wanted to do my undergrad in biochemistry but  after visiting the campus, it solidified my choice. Everyone was so friendly and I could see myself living in residence and walking around campus. I love exploring the surrounding KW area and seeing just everything this town has to offer. Now that I'm at the end of my degree, I can look back on the memories I made and know I made the right choice.
