The university is now beginning the process of identifying individuals to hold the position of Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education. A nominating committee will support the search for this position.
Reporting to the Vice President, Academic & Provost, the incumbent is a key member of Waterloo’s senior leadership team and works very closely with other members of the leadership team to achieve the goals and directions set out in the university’s strategic plan – particularly those related to ensuring: the growth of Waterloo’s global leadership in co-operative education; an integrated and coherent strategy for work integrated education at Waterloo; delivery of career support and programming to all Waterloo students and alumni; strong relationships with university stakeholders and external partners; interactions with external funders (including but not limited to government funders) for ongoing support of work-integrated education at the University of Waterloo and beyond. The associate provost provides leadership to ensure the highest possible standards in fostering co-operative and experiential learning, to identify opportunities in those areas of learning, and to encourage cooperation with all six Faculties.
The university has engaged Odgers Berndtson, a professional executive search consulting firm, to assist the nominating committee. Information on the nominating committee and its activities, including the position advertisement and detailed position description, will be posted to the Secretariat website as it becomes available: https://uwaterloo.ca/secretariat/committees-and-councils/nominating-committees
Over the course of the next few weeks, the committee will be consulting with members of the university community in order to define the mandate and responsibilities of the position as well as the experience, skills and attributes required for success in the role. To assist the committee in its deliberations, you are particularly invited to consider the following questions:
1. What opportunities and challenges will the Associate Provost, Co-operative and Experiential Education encounter over the next few years? What are the implications of these challenges and opportunities for the new Associate Provost?
2. Specifically, what do you consider the essential mandate of the new incumbent and this person’s first year and longer-term priorities?
3. What are your thoughts on the most important qualifications for the position - in terms of leadership style, organizational experience, and functional experience?
4. Are there any particular individuals you would like to recommend for consideration?
Please send your comments to any member of the committee, or to our search consultant, or to the committee secretary Mike Grivicic by Friday 22 December 2017. Contact information is provided below, and all comments will be held in confidence within the nominating committee.
