When did these guidelines take effect?
These guidelines came into effect on 1 November 2011.
What if I was already working from home?
If you were already working from home a number of days per week, then you need to formalize the arrangement with the completion of new forms and gain the appropriate approvals. There is no grandfathering of existing relationships.
What if I currently work from home more than two days per week?
If you are working more than two days per week and your normal place of work is not your home, then you need to discuss with your manager to make arrangements to now spend at least three days per week at the university work site commencing 1 November 2011.
What if I wish to work from home full time?
Working from home full time is not governed by these guidelines. Please speak to your manager about working from home full time.
The form only allows for a maximum of 12 months. What if I wish to have the arrangement go longer?
The 12-month maximum is to ensure that a discussion takes place as to the appropriateness of the arrangement for both parties. If you wish to continue the arrangement, then you need to submit a new form with the appropriate approvals in place.
What if I find the arrangement isn't working? How do I cancel the arrangement?
As this is a staff member initiated request, the staff member can cancel the arrangement at any time and return to the university work site.
Why is the university formalizing this practice?
Over the last number of years, there has been an increasing number of staff who work from home, or are requesting to work from home. These guidelines were developed to ensure work from home arrangements are consistently applied across the workplace, as well as provide a tool for staff and managers in making decisions around work from home arrangements.
Why does Human Resources receive a copy of the forms?
As an employer, we are obligated to ensure that our staff are working in a safe environment. Human Resources is the natural place to retain this information. HR will also advise management when the agreement is coming to an end.
