SUMMARY:What Were You Wearing? Exhibit
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:What Were You Wearing? Exhibit\n[https://uwaterloo.ca/sexual-vi
olence-prevention-response-office/events/what-were-you-wearing-exhibit-1]\
n\nThe Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Office (SVPRO)\, in\npartners
hip with the Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Treatment\nCentre (SADV
TC\n[https://www.smgh.ca/areas-of-care/sexual-assault-domestic-violence])\
,\nare bringing the WHAT WERE YOU WEARING? ART EXHIBIT to the University\n
of Waterloo.\n\nThe exhibit recreates outfits worn by university students
when they\nexperienced sexual violence. Sexual violence survivors are ofte
n\nasked\, “what were you wearing?”\, implying that what someone wears
\nis the cause of sexual violence.\n\nThis semester\, the SVPRO and the SA
SVTC are recreating the exhibit to\nhighlight the pervasiveness of victim-
blaming and the harm and trauma\nit causes survivors.\n\nThis myth about s
exual violence is used to blame survivors and justify\nthe actions of thos
e who cause harm. Survivors are never to blame for\ntheir experience(s) of
sexual violence. We all have the right to wear\nwhat we want. \n\nSexual
violence myths\, also known as rape myths\, want us to believe\nthat surv
ivors ‘ask for it’ through their behaviour and manner of\ndress. But t
he fact is that no behaviour or manner of dress justify\nsexual violence
 - the onus is on the person causing harm not to do\nso.\n\nYOU CAN VISIT
THE EXHIBIT IN THE SLC MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM TUESDAY\,\nOCTOBER 24 AND WED
NESDAY\, OCTOBER 25 FROM 10AM – 8PM. EVERYONE IS\nWELCOME!\n\nEngage wi
th the exhibit at your own pace.\n\nQuestions can be directed to: Stacey J
