 Response Office (SVPRO) brings the\n_WHAT WERE YOU WEARING? EXHIBIT _to t
 he University of Waterloo every\nacademic year.\n\nThe installation recrea
 tes outfits worn by university students when\nthey experienced sexual viol
 ence. Sexual violence survivors are often\nasked\, “what were you wearin
 g?”\, implying that what someone wears\nis the cause of sexual violence.
 \n\nThe SVPRO recreates the installation to highlight the pervasiveness of
 \nvictim-blaming and the harm and trauma it causes survivors.\n\nTHIS MYTH
  ABOUT SEXUAL VIOLENCE IS USED TO BLAME SURVIVORS AND JUSTIFY\nTHE ACTIONS
  OF THOSE WHO CAUSE HARM. SURVIVORS ARE NEVER TO BLAME FOR\nTHEIR EXPERIEN
 CE(S) OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE. WE ALL HAVE THE RIGHT TO WEAR\nWHAT WE WANT. \n
 \nSexual violence myths\, also known as rape myths\, want us to believe\nt
 hat survivors ‘ask for it’ through their behaviour and manner of\ndres
 s. But the fact is that NO BEHAVIOUR OR MANNER OF DRESS JUSTIFY\nSEXUAL VI
 OLENCE - tHE ONUS IS ON THE PERSON CAUSING HARM NOT TO DO\nSO.\n\nIf only
  we could end sexual violence by simply changing our clothes.\n\nInstead\,
  it requires from all of us a commitment to end victim\nblaming\, build co
 nsent culture\, and as a society reflect on why we\nask:\, “WHAT WERE Y
 OU WEARING?”\n\nThe “What Were You Wearing?” Art Installation was in
 spired by Dr.\nMary Simmerling’s poem\, \n\nWhat I was wearing\n[https:/

  created at the University of Arkansas in 2013 by Jen Brockman and\nDr. Ma
