Professor Susan Leat graduated in Optometry (BSc Hons, 1st Class) from the University of Manchester, UK. She obtained her PhD and undertook post-doctoral studies at Cardiff University. She was founder of the Cardiff University Low Vision Clinic and instrumental in establishing the Special Assessment Clinic in Cardiff University. In 1991 she took up a Faculty position in the School of Optometry and Vision Science, University of Waterloo, Canada where she is now a Professor, a clinician in the Pediatric and Special Needs Clinic and a Low Vision clinician. She teaches and conducts research in low vision, gerontology, pediatrics and psychophysics. She has published over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals and several books and book chapters on topics of low vision, pediatric vision and aging.
