Join us for a SIGNAL Spotlight!
This session will feature Amanda Cook sharing the work of the Sexual Violence Prevention and Response office on the UW campus.
SIGNAL Spotlights are casual, conversation-driven events where we come together to learn about the important work happening across our campus community. This session will feature Amanda Cook (Director, Sexual Violence Prevention and Response) sharing insights about the work of Sexual Violence Prevention and Response office here on campus, with plenty of time for questions, discussion, and connection.
What to Expect:
- Informal presentation and discussion
- Food and drinks
- Opportunity to connect with researchers, practitioners, and students working on intersectional gender justice and digital safety
- A welcoming space for learning and knowledge exchange
SIGNAL Spotlights are informal, community-centered gatherings that bring our network together to learn about the vital work happening across the University of Waterloo. As part of the SIGNAL Network (Strategies for Intersectional Gender justice, Networked Action, and Liberation), these events create space for knowledge sharing, connection, and collective learning around intersectional approaches to combating online hate, technology-facilitated violence, and systemic inequity. Each Spotlight features members of our interdisciplinary network, spanning Arts, Health, Science, Math, and key campus offices, sharing their research, advocacy, and practice.
These Spotlights help frame conversations leading up to our SIGNAL Summit (March 4-6, 2026, on campus), where we'll bring together local, national, and international experts to develop strategies for confronting online hate and building more equitable digital futures.
Students, faculty, staff, and community members are welcome! No prior knowledge required — just bring your curiosity.
