To be considered for a Legal Studies major, students must have completed a minimum of LS 101 plus at least one other Legal Studies course.

Once you meet the requirements, you need to fill out and sign a plan modification form (PDF). The form needs to be brought to the Sociology & Legal Studies Department (PAS 2045) for processing. Please direct questions and hand in the forms to Pauline Dawson.

If you qualify for the requested plan, your new plan will show on your Quest account within two weeks.

The cumulative average requirements for continuation in the various Legal Studies academic plans are as follows:

4-year General Legal Studies plan

You need to have 60% overall and 70% in Legal Studies courses.

Honours Legal Studies plan

You need to have 60% overall and 75% in Legal Studies courses.

Honours Legal Studies with Arts and Business plan

You need to have 60% overall, 75% in Legal Studies courses, and 70% in the Arts and Business courses.

Joint Honours with Legal Studies

You need to have 60% overall, 75% in Legal Studies, and the average requirement specified for the second major.

Minor

Students enrolled in any degree program may pursue a minor designation in Legal Studies.

The Legal Studies Minor requires successful completion of a minimum of four academic course units (eight courses) with a minimum cumulative average of 65%.
