Michael Collins is an Associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Mechatronics Engineering and has been Director of the Solar Thermal Research Laboratory (STRL) since his appointment in 2002. He conducts research on various solar-thermal topics including building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV), heat pump asssited solar systems, solar-optical analysis, and system modelling. He frequently collaborates on the Advanced Glazing System Laboratory (AGSL) research because of the common subject material related to solar optics and heat transfer. He is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and is the past chair of TC 4.5 (Fenestration). He is also registered as a professional engineer (PEO).
