The Waterloo Region Mayan Project invites you to the presentation of Paulo Rene Estrada.
Paulo is a Guatemalan Human Rights activist. In his presentation, Paulo will discuss the current human rights situation in Guatemala, and the challenges that the survivor victims of the armed conflict in Guatemala face to access justice for the Human Rights violations.
The screening will be preceded by a keynote presentation about the current situation in Venezuela, and how the crisis is affecting neighbouring Latin American countries, delivered by Shiva Mohan, PhD Candidate, Wilfrid Laurier University. There will be a post-screening Q&A with our guest speaker, Mr. Shiva Mohan, PhD Candidate, Wilfrid Laurier University and Dr. Mario Boido, Associate Professor at the University of Waterloo, specialist in Visual culture.

Dr. Remy Attig's guest lecture. He will discuss the concepts of “lengua fronteriza,” Spanglish, contact languages, and how language(s) intersect with identity. The guest lecture will be delivered in Spanish. The Q&A session will be bilingual.
