SUMMARY: The Spring 2026 Joint University of Waterloo–St. Jerome’s\nUn
 iversity Legal Studies Seminar
CLASS:PUBLIC
DESCRIPTION:The business model for mainstream porn has changed.  It now re
lies\nfor its success on the mass popularity and consumption of free onlin
e\nporn.  Similar to other types of social media\, it is data driven\,\nq
uasi-interactive and communal.  These changes have shifted the\nsocial im
pact and role of mainstream porn today\, which has\nimplications for the
promotion and protection of our\nsexual integrity.  Not all of these imp
lications are harmful\, but\nsome of them certainly are - particularly in
relation to women and\ngirls.  To date\, law and policy makers have faile
d to adequately\nregulate and hold accountable the large\, monopolistic co
rporations\nresponsible for the platformization of porn.
